Underground Utilities and Horizontal Directional Drilling Services

BTM uses specially designed Horizontal Directional Drills (HDD) along with highly accurate drill bit locator systems to bore under obstructions such as parking lots, streets, buildings or streams without the need to excavate or trench up the entire distance. Often referred to as Trenchless Technology, HDD has much less impact to landscaping, yards, slabs, buildings, streets and rail lines.

Since the drill head can be steered underground, it is possible to make gradual changes in direction and depth to go around, over, or under pre-identified underground hazards such as existing Water, Sewer and Gas lines as well as Electrical, Telephone, Cable TV and/or Fiber-Optic lines.  A variety of products can be pulled back through the pilot bore hole once the pilot bore drilling is completed. These products include HDPE seamless conduit, Schedule 40/80 PVC joint conduit as well as rigid conduit, water line, Cable TV, Copper T-1 and Fiber-Optic lines.

Excavator Trenching

Uses specially designed chain excavators and track-driven backhoes to dig a trench from 6-12 inches wide down to a maximum depth of 60 inches. Typical reasons for excavation by chain trencher include: installing long runs of seamless pipe or conduit for data lines, telephone lines water, sewer, gas or fiber-optic lines through existing right of Ways or Utility Easements

A variety of products can be installed once the trench is completed. These products include HDPE Conduit, schedule 40 & 80 PVC conduit as well as seamless conduit, rigid conduit, water pipes, electrical conduit, telephone, T-1 and fiber-Optic lines. Once the products have been installed, the trench is filled back in along with special underground warning tape to warn future excavators of the buried lines.
Fiber-Optic Cable Installation and CableJetting

Sonet-ring fiber-optic cable installation is accomplished via high-pressure conditioned air driving a CableJet fiber blowing system. The cable is blown through the HDPE conduit with virtually no stress on the fiber-cable other than a low strain pushing force and high speed air from the compressor. By utilizing this method of fiber blowing or jetting there is little chance of any detrimental strain being imparted on the fiber optic cable.

At BTM we install the HDPE conduit as well as other types of conduit and blow in the Fiber to manholes , hand holes, vaults or buildings. Frequently it is possible to blow in fiber to a multi-story building from the street level upward.

Conduit and HDPE Installation

Many products can be pulled back through the pilot bore hole once the pilot bore drilling is completed. These products include High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE )Seamless conduit, Schedule 40/80 PVC Joint conduit as well as Rigid metal conduit, Water line, Cable TV, Copper T-1 and Fiber-Optic lines.

Manhole, HandHole and Vaults Installation

Due to long cable or conduit runs it is often necessary to install Polymer Concrete, Fiberglass or PVC Manholes, HandHoles or Vaults for intermediate pull stations or splicing points. BTM utilizes either a conventional Trackhoe or Hydro-Excavation to excavate to or clean out existing hand holes or Manholes. Pricing to install or clean out these points varies due to depth, size and distance.
